A walk from Blakeney to Morston (and back)
I have been living in Norfolk for over ten years and this is what I've always promised myself to do - a walk from Blakeney to Morston.
During the summer, North Norfolk is heaving with holiday makers but in the winter - it's almost deserted at which the best time for me to explore.
You can also choose to have a short walk, almost 3 miles there and back to Morston like I did today or a longer walk to Wells next the Sea (not sure how much longer) or a really long walk to Weybourne or even further to Sheringham, Cromer or Overstrand! It's incredible.
The walk to Morston is a good walk and the path is solid and more shelter and less muddy than the way to Cley. I know this because I got lost a little way on the path to Cley and had to turn back. I think it's less scenic this way but still a very nice walk. The thing is the weather had changed almost as soon as I got there - the sun was gone and the salt marsh became a bit bleak.
I still found it incredible though. I love these flat and vast East Anglia sky - it's so flat you can see right to the horizon. I was told I had to come to see the sunset and that was my intention but there was no sun to be seen when I got there.
Get back to this vast, enormous sky - it looks so dramatic. It also makes me feel so overwhelmed. I believe I can send a message to the universe - even on a very cloudy day.
Morston is another small fishing village which is even quieter and smaller than Blakeney. I think it only has one pub and not a single shop! But, oh, I love it that way - I wish these places in North Norfolk would never ever change. I want it to remain quaint forever and ever.
Morston quay has a visitor centre - where you can get some refreshment and book a seal trip. But the cafe was closed at 14:00 so no hot chocolate for me. Snoopy had a drink and snack but refused to get up to the observatory deck.
So after 5 minutes rest, we headed back to Blakeney. It was 15:30 and started to get dark. There were some people still walking back from Blakeney and some walking in the same direction as me - so it wasn't scary. Most of them were dog owner and the guy who walked back to Blakeney with me had a little dog. He comes from Leicester and has a holiday home in Blakeney 😒 Obviously rich and posh - I have no grudge against posh people. it's only ruined a bit of my romanticise these little fishing villages as quaint and backwater.
I'm going to consider myself as a local because I live here and although people usually think I'm a tourist from China! I'm only 15 miles down the road and this is my third visit to Blakeney ( the other two were very brief visit) Just to say, I have not been on holiday aboard this year - I decided to staycation and to spend quality time with my dog, Snoopy who is in his mature year. Only that I had a car problem when I was supposed to be on annual leave for 2 weeks so I couldn't go anywhere but my back garden.
