Hope is like a harebell
I suppose you learn something new everyday. It's going to sound stupid but I've just realised this flower is called Harebell yesterday!ð
A few days ago, I visited someone in a very charming cottage called Harebell I didn't realise it was the name of a flower. I only put picture of a hare and picture of a bell together in my head to make up the word Harebell - and I thought what a funny name for a house.ð
Yesterday I went for a walk and I saw these delicate, tiny bell shaped flowers littered the lawn. They were so pretty and I wondered what they were. Yes!!! they are called Harebell.
Now, I know what Harebell actually is - I can't help but fall in love with both the name and the flowers. I imagine picture of a hare with the flower round its neck - like an illustration you'd see in nursery rhyme or children books. It certainly has something childlike and magical to it. ð
I googled something nice about Harebell wondered if anyone notice its beauty and found that my favourite poet, Christina Rossetti has mentioned it in one of her poems - see that !
Hope Is Like a Harebell
By Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830–1894)
H
Love is like a rose, the joy of all the earth.
Faith is like a lily lifted high and white;
Love is like a lovely rose, the world’s delight.
Harebells and sweet lilies show a thornless growth,
But the rose with all its thorns excels them both.
