Temple of the Reclining Buddha วัดพระนอน หรือวัดโพธ์

As I was born on Tuesday, my Buddha statue is reclining. I suppose, it's the answer as to why I sleep a lot? เนื่องจากฉันเกิดวันอังคาร พระปางไสยาสน์จึงเป็นพระประจำวันเกิดของฉัน และนั้นก็อาจจะตอบคำถามที่ว่าทำไมถึงเป็นคนขี้เซา

Temple of the Reclining Buddha is also known as Wat Pho or Wat Phra Chetuphon which is the formal name. But as a child I was used to it to be called Temple of the reclining Buddha and I love the name. 

วัดพระนอนนั้นยังเป็นที่รู้จักกันว่าวัดโพธิ์ และวัดพระเชตุพนอันเป็นชื่อเรียกอย่างเป็นทางการ แต่ฉันคุ้นเคยเรียกชื่อวัดนี้ว่าวัดพระนอนตั้งแต่ยังเป็นเด็ก

Temple of the Reclining Buddha is a little bit underrated to my opinion as there are two more popular temples in the same area. One is the Grand Palace where the Emerald Buddha resides and another the rival temple on the opposite side of Chao Phraya river - the Temple of Dawn or Wat Arun. But it was my favourite temple back then as it's on this side of the river (the Bangkok side) and it's a much quieter than the other two therefore more peaceful วัดพระนอนนั้นอาจจะมีชื่อเสียงสู้วัดเพื่อนบ้านอย่างวัดพระแก้วและคู่แข่งอีกฟากหนึ่งของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาอย่างวัดอรุณไม่ได้ แต่ก็เป็นวัดโปรดของฉันสมัยเด็กๆ เพราะอยู่ทางแม่น้ำฟากกรุงเทพฯ และเป็นวัดที่เงียบสงบกว่าอีกสองวัด

All temples are not allowed visitors at night but I meant to go to see the Temple of Dawn by night as you could see it across the river. But I was lucky that not only I got to see Temple of Dawn but also got to visit Temple of the Reclining Buddha. จริงๆ วัดทุกวันปิดไม่ให้เข้าเยี่ยมชมในเวลาดึก แต่ในคืนนั้นฉันจะไปดูวัดอรุณยามค่ำจากอีกฟากหนึ่งของแม่น้ำ แต่ก็โชคดีตรงที่ว่าไม่ได้เห็นแค่วัดอรุณแต่ยังได้เข้าไปในวัดพระนอนอีกด้วย

It was a full moon night and the whole temple was decorated with colourful lanterns. It was to celebrate the occasion when the present king and King Rama I were both at same age which was 26,469 days old - something like that - I don't quite understand the relevant but I'm glad for the celebration which gave me the opportunity to see inside the Temple after dark.

มันเป็นคืนพระจันทร์เต็มดวง และทั้วบริเวณวัดก็ตกแต่งไปด้วยโคมหลากสี เป็นการฉลองในหลวงทรงพระชมน์พรรษา 26,469 วัน เช่นเดียวกับในหลวงรัชกาลที่หนึ่ง จริงๆ แล้วก็ไม่เข้าใจเหมือนกัน แต่ก็ดีใจที่มีการฉลองนี้เพราะว่าได้เข้าไปชมวัดพระนอนหลังจากที่มืดแล้ว

The Reclining Buddha was still amazing, so stunning - the size, the design - it was overwhelmed. I've just found out that reclining position is called parinirvana which only occurs when someone reaches enlightenment or nirvana. Oh my! I feel like I've spent all my life being so ignorance! พระนอนยังคงอลังการณ์ให้ความรู้สึกตื่นตะลึง 

ทั้งขนาดและการออกแบบ  คือเห็นแล้วพูดไม่ถูก นอกจากนั้นก็เพิ่งจะรู้มาด้วยจากการค้นคว้าว่า พระนอนนี้เป็นอิริยาบทที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงเมื่อถึงคราวมรณภาพและได้หลุดพ้น เฮ้อมีความรู้สึกว่าเป็นคนที่โง่เง่ามาตลอดทั้งชีวิตยังไงก็ไม่รู้ เกิดมาไม่ค่อยจะรู้เรื่องรู้ราวเท่าไหร่เลย

It was amazing, wandering around the temple after dark - I truly enjoyed it. I love being old as I seem to be more of an impressionist than when I was younger. I don't know how many times I have visited the Reclining Buddha but I don't remember how I appreciate its beauty as much as this time.

การได้เดินชมวัดพระนอนยามมืดนี่เป็นประสบการ์ณที่น่าติดตาตรึ่งใจจริงๆ และการได้เป็นผู้สูงอายุก็ทำให้ฉันประทับใจอะไรได้มากกว่าตอนยังอายุน้อยกว่านี้ เพราะมาเยือนพระนอนนับครั้งไม่ถ้วนก็ไม่เคยจำได้ว่าประทับใจเท่าครั้งนี้เลย
