All boats lead to the Temple of Dawn เรือทุกลำมุ่งหน้าไปวัดอรุณ

During my stay in Bangkok, my main transportation was by boats. Luckily, my family had moved from Bangkok to the outskirts, in Nonthaburi which is one of the Home Counties like Kent or Surrey where although you are not in Bangkok but you still feel you are. Ten minutes walk was MRT station and 15 minutes stroll to Nonthaburi Pier where Chao Phraya Express leaves to the city every half an hour. It costs less than a pound which is totally amazing! 

อยู่ในกรุงเทพฯครั้งนี้ฉันก็ไปไหนมาไหนด้วยเรือเสียเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ครอบครัวของฉันย่ายจากกรุงเทพมาจังหวัดนนท์ ซึ่งก็เหมือนรอบนอกกรุงเทพ อย่างเคนท์หรือเซอเรย์ในอังกฤษ เดินจากบ้านไปสิบนาทีก็ถึงสถานีรถไฟใต้ดิน สิบห้านาทีถึงท่าน้ำนนท์ไปขี้นเรือด่วนเจ้าพระยาที่ออกทุกๆ ครึ่งชั่วโมง ค่าโดยสารก็ไม่ถึงหนึ่งปอนด์

When I was little, Bangkok was full of waterways - so many canals. Although they had become unused but they were still part of the city. In the old days, canals were the only way to get about. People generally built houses by the rivers or canals as these were the main transport to Bangkok. ตอนที่ยังเป็นเด็กจำได้ว่ากรุงเทพฯมีคลองเยอะแยะเลย ถึงแม้ว่าจะไม่ค่อยมีใครพายเรือกันแล้ว แต่มันก็ยังเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของกรุงเทพฯ สมัยก่อนนานมาแล้วคนต้องสร้างบ้านอยู่ริมแม่น้ำลำคลอง เพราะมันเป็นเส้นทางการเดินทางหลักมายังกรุงเทพฯ

On my boat trip to the Temple of Dawn, having seen lovely old houses along the river reminded me of the old way of living. I was glad that people still get around by boats. There were all kinds of boats to see - from big to small, from fancy to basic.- just hope the river doesn't get so polluted. 

As I got closer and closer to the city, tall buildings started to appear. It was a combination of old and new. To my surprise, it had added up to the character which made Bangkok even more interesting and unique. Just reminded me of how similar it is between England and Thailand and just how lucky I am to have lived in both countries.

  

ตอนที่นั่งเรือด่วนเจ้าพระยาไปวัดอรุณฉันก็เห็นบ้านเก่าสวยๆ อยู่ริมน้ำหลายหลัง ทำให้นึกไปถึงวิถึชีวิตของคนสมัยก่อนที่เขาเดินทางทางน้ำกันซะเป็นส่วนมาก คนก็มักจะปลูกบ้านอยู่ริมแมน้ำลำคลอง รู้สึกดีที่เดี๋ยวนี้คนก็ยังไปไหนด้วยเรืออยู่ ในแม่น้ำมีเรือเยอะแยะทั้งใหญ่เล็กและทั้งหรูและเรียบง่าย ก็หวังแต่ว่าทุกคนจะดูแลแม่น้ำ ไม่ให้เน่าเสีย

เมื่อใกล้เข้าไปในเมือง ตึกสูงๆก็เริ่มปรากฏขึ้น มันเป็นส่วนผสมของความเก่าและใหม่ ที่จะว่าไปก็กลมกลืนเข้ากันได้ดีทำให้กรุงเทพฯดูน่าสนใจไปอีกแบบ ทำให้นึกไปถึงความคล้ายคลึงระหว่างประเทศไทยกับประเทศอังกฤษที่มีวัฒนธรรมเก่าๆ เหมือนกัน ทำให้รู้สึกโชคดีที่ได้อยู่ในประเทศทั้งสองประเทศ

       

The river had got congested with all kind of boats once I got closer to the Temple of Dawn. At one point, it had to stop for traffic. I don't know how they managed to steer - which lane which? The atmosphere became so lively with boats carried tourists from different countries and the guides bellowed out the instructions in their own languages on loud speakers! The Temple of Dawn is so popular and I would soon see why.  แม่น้ำหนาแน่นไปด้วยเรือขนาดต่างๆ เมื่อเราใกล้ถึงวัดอรุณ จนมีช่วงหนึ่งที่เรือเราไปไม่ได้ ต้องจอดลอยอยู่อย่างนั้น ไม่แน่ใจว่าเขาจัดการขับเรือกันยังไง ใครไปก่อนไปหลัง หรือเลนใครเลนมัน บรรยากาศก็จ้อกแจ้กจอแจ ด้วยนักท่องเที่ยวชาติต่างๆ ที่อยู่ในเรือก็มีไกด์พูดแนะนำสถานที่ทางโทรโข่งเสียงดังส่งภาษาแข่งกัน วัดอรุณนั้นเป็นที่นิยมของนักท่องเที่ยวมาก อย่างที่ฉันจะได้ไปเห็น
